Spring has sprung at Yellowbreeches Farms. We have 3 new litters of puppies. Puppies are available to compliment many different lifestyles! Hooch and Cozma's pups are a nice combination of show and field lines. These pups would make awesome family companions for the an active family that enjoys sports and the outdoors. Both Hooch and Cozma have siblings trained as service dogs. These pups should be easy to train and live with! Izzy's pups are a wonderful combination of American and British show lines. Izzy is a daughter of the very versatile lab BISS Ch Wilcare Leisure suit Larry JH. Her pups are sired by U-Ch Deep Run Commander in Chief JH. Izzy's pups should have classic lab looks with retrieving/working drive. Izzy is my constant companion and daughter's best friend. She is the sweetest lab you will ever meet. Izzy's pups will make beautiful family companions with drive for the casual hunter. Keep an eye on the website
Sometimes clearances do not come back with results you like. We would all like to have very dog be champion with OFA Hips Excellent, Elbows Normal, Eyes clear, PRA Normal, EIC clear, Heart ECHO Normal, CNM Normal with full dentition. This is usually not the case. We are sometimes put in situations where we have to use our tools wisely to make a breeding decision. As in the case of hips, if you have a dog with OFA Fair hips and normal elbows would you consider breeding it? Hip dysplasia involves many genes and environmental influences in dogs. From the OFFA website: "Do not ignore the dog with a fair hip evaluation. The dog is still within normal limits. For example; a dog with fair hips but with a strong hip background and over 75% of its brothers and sisters being normal is a good breeding prospect. A dog with excellent hips, but with a weak family background and less than 75% of its brothers and sisters being normal is a poor breeding prospect." I would add to this to look at the pedigree of the dog and look at hip clearances for several generations and see what is produced. I would not rule a dog with Fair hips from my breeding program if the family background was strong. We are fortunate to now have tests to look at genetic diseases cause by simple dominant/recessive traits. If a dog is tested as a carrier, this means the dog if bred to a clear/normal it will produce carriers or normals but not affected. By using the testing tools correctly a breeder can eliminate the genes from their breeding program in a few generations.Breeders need to learn not to eliminate or discriminate against dogs that may have undesirable test results. We are fortunate to have many screening tools in our tool box but we need to learn to use them wisely. Start blogging by creating a new post. You can edit or delete me by clicking under the comments.
